Rongoa

Rongoa is one of Tane’s treasures. Tane is the god of the forest. Did you know that Rongoa can cure many injuries? Many native plants such as Harakeke, Rongoa and Kanuka have types of things they can heal.

Rongoa is a Maori medicine used from native plants in NZ.

The use of these medicines stop many sicknesses, and gives medications for the sick. Rongoa is important in the Maori culture because the Maori people used plants and trees to cure people.

Rongoa is a Maori tradition because the use of curing injuries
with native plants have been past down for many centuries.
In the past it was the only way of making the sick feel better.

I have learnt about the plant Harakeke. Before you use this you have to say a Karakia. This is not only a medicine it can be used for making clothes, hats and mats.

It is important that Rongoa is known how to be used properly because it is poisonous.
